Sermon 4/11/2020 “Our salvation history”

Sermon 4/11/2020 “Our salvation history”

Preacher: Jo J. Belser
Location: Church of the Resurrection at home, Alexandria, VA
Text: Matthew 28:1-10
Day: Easter Vigil 2020 during a pandemic

Rev. Jo preaching during our Easter Vigil service on April 11, 2020

We are gathered tonight as a community—safely from the pandemic—to hear our salvation history. Jesus has been crucified and all seems lost; we are bereft of the joy of our lives. Into this faithful despair comes Jesus, miraculously arisen, and hope springs anew in our hearts:

Alleluia, Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.

We will go to our homes tonight and await what tomorrow will bring in our virus-plagued world. So, before we leave this “Upper Room” tonight, perhaps we should think about OUR salvation history, how God has intervened in our lives.

  1. What one big event (or 2-3 smaller events) would you include in your personal salvation history to tell of how God saved you somehow?

  2. How about our Church of the Resurrection salvation history—when has God intervened to “save” our church?

  3. When will our Church of the Resurrection history be finished “finished?”
